Micro Exploration on my Royal Enfield Himalayan
'Let’s Go Down There' is mostly all about my adventures on my Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle. Not massive adventures as I'm never going to ride around the world on it, although Noraly aka Itchy Boots has proved that the motorcycle itself is more than capable. Nor am I going to ride to the South Pole like Royal Enfield did to celebrate their 120th anniversary. Instead it's about what I've termed 'micro exploration'.
Micro exploration is finding out what’s down that little side road that I may have passed dozens or hundreds of times when I’ve been out and about. All those times I neither bothered nor had the opportunity to go and find out. I’ve ridden past lanes that have signs to an old church or pub countless times over the years and often thought that one day I’ll go back and take a look, but I never did.
I’ve now got the perfect vehicle for exploring those lanes and finding out what really is down there and hopefully encourage a few people to start exploring their own local areas . Based near the Worcestershire and Gloucestershire border, my local countryside is stunning and tucked away are some amazing properties and sights. Some lanes end up being a private track with no access but it regardless it's always fun to find out. I would love to hear from anyone else undertaking a similar endeavour.
A Sense of Adventure
One thing I love about the Himalayan is the sense of adventure it instils. Despite being a tiny, single cylinder bike with just 24.5 bhp it is a capable tourer and particularly suited to country lanes. In fact in the two weeks after buying the bike I had ridden more of my local country lanes than I had in the five years since moving to the area which is what gave me the idea for this site as I found myself saying myself, "Let's go down there...".
I'm also using the bike to commute and even though it can double the time it used to take, it more than makes up for it with an element of fun as I explore my way round the area and discover new routes to the office.
As well as the micro explorations on Kenton I occasionally take longer trips.
